Wright Park, Middlebury VT, from the upland area near the parking lot down to the zig-zag bridge and wetland area
Free
Join the wonderful and knowledgeable Zapata Courage, a Wetland Ecologist for Vermont’s Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), will guide a nature walk along the trail at Wright Park. You will start your wetland exploration upland near the Wright Park parking lot, then follow the trail down to the zig-zag bridge finding yourself in a beautiful wetland area. Here she will discuss the dynamics of this beaver influenced wetland system, and teach what makes a wetland and how to identify one using plant identification. Your journey will then be led over to the Otter Creek Gorge to talk about floodplain wetlands, the important role they play in flood management, and the diverse ecosystems they house. Prior to working at DEC, Zapata worked as a consultant, field biologist, and environmental outdoor educator.
