About the Role
Vermont Literacy Network (VLN) is looking for a flexible, creative educator to join our team as a Student Program Instructor. This is a unique opportunity to design and lead literacy-based programs for children of all ages (e.g., infants through high schoolers) both at our Bristol location and throughout Addison County and surrounding areas. This includes leading camps, classes, workshops, and events. This position is intentionally designed to grow with the right person, and we are hopeful that it could evolve into a full-time Director of Student Programming role. Our ideal candidate is someone passionate about literacy, and eager to co-create meaningful, inclusive literacy experiences for children and families.

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate and take initiative on the design, preparation, and facilitation ofliteracy-based programs (e.g., camps, classes, workshops) for children from early childhood through high school.  Lead inclusive, engaging programs that support diverse learning needs across a variety of concepts and settings. Contribute ideas and feedback as a collaborative partner in the development of new initiatives.
  • Assist with outreach, promotion, and community engagement efforts related to student programming and other relevant areas. Maintain positive communication with students, families, colleagues, and community partners.
  • Participate in ongoing training, reflection, and professional development aligned with the role and VLN’s mission.
  • Remain flexible and open to evolving responsibilities as the role, reach of student programming, and VLN grow.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field (required)
  • Vermont teaching license (e.g., early childhood, elementary, or literacy specialist) (required)
  • Background in literacy, reading instruction, or early childhood education strongly preferred; training in Structured Literacy and/or the Science of Reading is a plus
  • Experience in educational settings (e.g., classrooms, afterschool programs, camps); ability to adapt instruction to meet diverse learning needs. Experience designing and leading educational programs (e.g., lessons/activities, classes, workshops, clubs).
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills; able to co-develop programs, receive feedback, and engage with families and partners professionally
  • Willingness to travel locally for programs in community settings
