The Purchasing Manager is responsible for leading the procurement of materials to support manufacturing operations while ensuring material availability, cost competitiveness, quality, and supplier performance. This role develops sourcing strategies, manages supplier relationships, and leads a team responsible for executing purchasing activities that support operational and business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute sourcing and procurement strategies that improve cost, quality, delivery, and supplier performance.
- Manage supplier performance through established metrics and corrective actions to improve on-time delivery, quality, responsiveness, and cost.
- Partner with Operations, Planning, Engineering, and Quality to ensure material availability and proactively mitigate supply chain risks.
- Lead negotiations for pricing, contracts, and commercial agreements with suppliers.
- Monitor inventory levels and purchasing activities to balance customer requirements, working capital, and inventory objectives.
- Support new product introductions, supplier qualifications, and dual-source initiatives to improve supply chain resilience.
- Develop and mentor the purchasing team while fostering a culture of accountability and collaboration.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field.
- 5+ years of purchasing, procurement, or supply chain experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience negotiating supplier contracts and commercial agreements.
- Demonstrated ability to build effective supplier relationships and drive supplier performance improvements.
- Strong communication and cross-functional leadership skills.
- Experience with aerospace manufacturing and AS9100 environments preferred.
