Summary Description: GIS Specialist builds and maintains GIS databases. GIS Specialist analyzes data to identify spatial relationship or display the results of analyses; review GIS data for accuracy; document the parameters and context of GIS data; perform geospatial 
modeling or spatial analysis; and create thematic maps for engineering, environmental and technical purposes.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Compiling geographic information in the form of satellite images, geographical surveys, and aerial photographs.
  • Researching and verifying geographic data.
  • Entering new data into the GIS database.
  • Drawing maps using advanced computer software.
  • Ensuring maps are annotated and compiled with the correct information.
  • Compiling reports using all available GIS and GPS data sources.
  • Maintaining the GIS database and troubleshooting data issues.
  • Identifying and collecting data, including in the field when necessary.
  • Traveling to geographic sites to conduct land surveys.
  • Identifies, requests and coordinates through Group Leader for Engineering and data collection staff support.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), computer science or similar field.
  • Experience: 0-5 years of experience.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Proven work experience as a GIS technician.
  • Understanding of Integrated GPS and GIS principals.
  • Advanced computer programming and data analysis skills.
  • Knowledge of modern cartographic standards and principles.
  • Advanced statistical, mathematical, and methodology skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to travel when required.
  • Proficiency in design software including AutoCAD and ArcGIS Pro.
