Otter Valley Union Middle School (Brandon, VT) is seeking an enthusiastic, innovative and collaborative full time Middle School science teacher to fill a vacancy in the 2025-2026 school year. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will teach 8th grade science and serve as an 8th grade advisor. Otter Valley’s science program uses an integrated model called Spiral Science in Grades 7 and 8, where topics in life, physical, and earth sciences are explored throughout the middle school experience. The exact assignment may be adjusted depending on the skill set of the candidate and existing members of the department, and may vary from year to year. Job Responsibilities
All Otter Valley teachers are expected to:

  • implement standards-aligned units of study and engaging lessons
  • use content-specific pedagogical techniques to engage learners
  • use assessment to inform instruction throughout the learning process
  • create positive classroom cultures focused on relationships, inclusive practices, and reciprocal trusts
  • collaborate effectively with colleagues to improve teaching methods and ensure supports are in place for all students
Specific responsibilities associated with this position include:
  • Implement units and lessons derived from state standards (NGSS) and department proficiencies.
  • Work with the 7th and 9th grade
  • Organize classroom systems/procedures and manage student behavior to ensure an emotionally and physically safe learning environment.
  • Manage the lab space and storage spaces, including: maintaining equipment, procuring supplies, managing inventory, establishing and enforcing safety procedures.
  • Possess ability to deliver current, relevant and adaptable class content with real world connections.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of methods, materials and techniques used to teach science for Grades 7 - 12 within the framework of the Next Generation Science Standards.
  • Serve as a member of a collaborative team of middle school grade teachers focused on providing consistent experiences and timely supports for all students

Education, Training and Experience Requirements
Must be eligible or possess Vermont State Professional License with appropriate endorsement to teach Science 7 - 12.
